If a loved one is unable to physically or financially care for themselves, it may be necessary to establish a guardianship or conservatorship for the loved one’s protection and care. Furthermore, minors who have lost a parent, have received an inheritance, or are otherwise in need of assistance, may need a guardianship or conservatorship.
Guardianships and Conservatorships are court-appointed and court-supervised procedures that enable a fiduciary to act on behalf of someone else. For adults, powers of attorney are often helpful in preventing the necessity of a guardianship and conservatorship.
